Masaaki Hoshino, the director of Pokemon Champions, has commented on why the team has no plans to add single-player modes.
Right now the Nintendo Switch and mobile game is all about multiplayer. More specifically, it’s intended to be the series’ competitive battler for the foreseeable future.
Some have been interested in seeing the title expand with single-player content. Unfortunately though, Hoshino has ruled that out for now.
Pokemon Champions takes inspiration from Pokemon Stadium, which did have single-player content. In the case of this title though, Hoshino believes that doing so would take the attention away from PvP.
Hoshino said in an interview with VGC:
“For the time being, we probably won’t be adding additional modes similar to Pokemon Stadium. The reason is if you start adding a lot of single-player modes, that kind of moves people away from the PvP, and that actually increases the match time, which makes it a little more difficult for a PvP game. So at least while more people are increasingly playing, I want to focus on PvP for the time being.”
Hoshino previously commented on the game’s graphics – read about that here. He also previously spoke about how new Pokemon are decided for inclusion and why matches are so short.
Don’t forget that Pokemon Champions is about to receive a major update with Z Mega Evolutions and the start of Regulation Set M-C.
