Critical Leap has announced the launch of the critically acclaimed time-loop murder mystery adventure, The Posthumous Investigation, now available on Android and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Mother Gaia Studio, the beloved indie title was originally released on PC this March and has finally arrived on mobile, though an iOS release is not confirmed.
You can solve a murder before the day resets
In The Posthumous Investigation, you play as a private investigator hired by an influential entrepreneur who is already dead, leaving you with just one day to figure out who killed him before everything resets. Once the day begins, you keep the knowledge from your previous attempt, letting you try different approaches, open new paths, manipulate routines, and find the truth.
Set in a cool, noir-inspired version of 1937 Rio de Janeiro, the game puts you among 14 characters, each following their own routines while hiding secrets, motives, and useful information. You can explore the city’s alleys and scenic locations, search for documents, notes, and other clues, then question suspects to uncover inconsistencies in their stories.
Build the case and expose the culprit
As you gather more evidence, you can use the Thinking Board to track the information you’ve discovered and how different clues connect. Reconstructing the timeline is a part of the investigation, as you need to understand what each character was doing before making an accusation. The more you learn, the more opportunities you have to challenge alibis and uncover new pieces.
I also like its hand-drawn take on 1937 Rio de Janeiro, since it gives the investigation a distinct visual identity and atmosphere. Inspired by the work of Brazilian author Machado de Assis, the game blends its detective story with a world filled with sarcasm, mystery, and a wide variety of personalities. I’m surely going to give this game a try.
The Posthumous Investigation is now available on Android and Nintendo Switch. So, you can download the game via the Google Play Store. Stay tuned for iOS release dates.
